For maximum protection against abrasion, adhesion and corrosion, we offer PVD coatings (Physical Vapor Deposition) based on titanium, chromium and aluminium — as TiN, CrN, AlTiN or ZrN.
Coating temperatures remain below the hardening and tempering temperature, ensuring no dimensional changes occur and loss of hardness is completely ruled out. The multi-layer coating of just 4–6 µm achieves a hardness of up to 2,300 HV — combined with excellent layer density and a smooth surface finish.
Key Benefits at a Glance
- Drastically reduced deposit formation — longer cleaning intervals
- Protection against abrasive wear caused by hard, embedded particles in the plastic
- Reliable scratch and corrosion protection
- Very low coefficient of friction — significantly lower compared to nitrided or hard chrome-plated surfaces
- No change to screw geometry due to the minimal coating thickness
- Environmentally friendly: PVD is dry, solvent-free and produces no hazardous by-products
Applications in Plastics and Rubber Processing
- PVC extrusion — protection against adhesion, sticking and corrosive chlorine compounds
- PE/PP extrusion — reduction of deposits and improvement of flow behaviour
- PUR processing — protection against sticking of reactive melts
- Glass fibre reinforced plastics — suitable for glass fibre content up to 10 %
- Rubber processing — CrN coatings are ideal for elastomers with high adhesion tendency such as NBR, NR, EPDM, SBR as well as natural and synthetic rubber compounds
